California Police's e-bikes have mid drive motors, not hubs, any ideas why?

Maybe they have some steep hills to climb. Another thing - they may have some heavy cops riding them. Heavy rider - steep hills - you need that little motor to operate at suitable revolutions, and the gears on the bike allow that with a crank motor.

    Controller

So is it a hub motor or a crank drive? If the former, then look for the pas sensor. This is often a plastic disc with magnets in it, mounted on the pedal shaft. It needs to be a consistant 1mm from the detector. The detector often has an led on it that flashes as each magnet passes it. This...

Carrera Vulcan e spec advise sort

There is a thread somewhere, where it's already been done on similar bike, possibly a Crossfire. Try typing into Google "pedelecs carrera KT controller" and see what vomes up. I haven't done it myself, but I understand how the Carrera bikes work and the other stuff. The motors work the same...

    ZF 48v Ebike System

That gear system is similar to other systems that have been around for a very long time, which have been used in a few ebike motors before, and like the recliner mechanism of your car seats. It's often used when you want zero backlash. The gear ratio comes from the difference in the number of...

    ZF 48v Ebike System

Interesting. Picked up on two interesting innovations - Strain Wave Gearing High frequency sampling of crank speed I don't really understand that gearing idea in detail. I looked at the wikipedia diagram, and see how the graphic seems to operate, but don't really see how it turns...

    Hello, new to forum.

Hi Jeff, You wll find more details on the TSDZ8 here: https://wooshbikes.co.uk/?tsdz The main difference between Tongsheng TSDZ crank drive kits and others is the Tongsheng kits have torque sensors. The main thing about motors with torque sensor is the output of the motor increases with your...

How much battery sag is too much for a 3 year old battery?

Even with "Start Degree" set to 4: After stopping on my gear 4 (57.8 gear inches) or lower, starts on level road were fast enough - pedal assist starts faster now with "Start Degree" set to 2. Feels like it should be possible to accelerate a little bit faster from a standing start with 6kph...

How much battery sag is too much for a 3 year old battery?

I am back with my kit e-bike again and have been riding this morning before the horrible downpours arrived (right now it is torrential outside). I have not yet addressed the changes to throttle which we were discussing. I am in an undecided state as to whether I need to. I generally don't...

    Stripping dapu geared hub motor

The diameter and pitch of the thread pose a significant resistance to tapping with a hammer and you may not be able to deliver a significant enough blow without deforming the head since you concentrating the impact with a blunt chisel.. . What i know as a 'Crank Spanner' or sold as a 'universal...

Is there any possible way to unlock the top speed of the Wisper Wayfarer H9 taking full personal responsibility?

Is it the hub motor or crank motor? The crank motor has a wheel magnet sensor, so pretty easy to hack or spoof the speed signal. There's a fair chance that removing the magnet will derestrict it, though it may go to sleep after 5 mins, so you have to keep switching it back on.

    Woosh Big Bear Bottom bracket

Well done for fixing it. One time, I was out riding and a magnet fell out of my 10 magnet disc. The KT controller is so responsive that every time the missing magnet passed the sensor, it cut the power until the next magnet passed. The bike was almost unrideable because of the power jerking on...

Advice on supplier for hub kit

That's easy. I've already done it for him: 48v hub-motor with KT controller = ebike nirvana. The same bike with 48v TSDZ2 = shite. For those of you without any comprehension or imagination, that's called a hyperbole. Main differences are that with a KT controller, you can set the amount of...

    New Member - advice welcome

Hope the auction price was a steal.. Lets put the refit job into perspective, conversion of a 'virgin' donor bike is an afternoon job within reach of anyone capable of changing a tyre. And with the motor wheel already installed in your bike thats 50% + done before you start. The rest of the...

    Diagnose Pendleton not working

Good question... I think it's several faults, really: The hub cable had been mounted badly, either from purchase or during an in-warranty repair by Halfords. As a result it had worn through the insulation and snapped a phase wire. Replaced the cable... Opening the motor (a bafang rear hub...

    Diagnose Pendleton not working

I tested the pendleton pedal sensor by substitution.i.e. I plugged in a spare KT mini type sensor into the controller, stuck my finger into its center and turned the magnet, and the bike sprung into life. So I was fairly sure that the original sensor was faulty. I then removed the sensor from...

    Higher watts advantages?

All electric motors have a constant called kV. It's a direct relationship between volts and rpm. When you change from 36v (10S) to 48v (13S), the motor will spin 30% faster. How fast it goes depends on the kV. A 36v that spins to 250 rpm has a kV of 250/36, so at 48v, it'll spin to 48x250/36 =...
