Now this might be worth keeping an eye on....

I would think the same about bidding on an item like this... way too much of a gamble once it goes past £600. You only have the sellers word its ok and he's not got much reputation... with auctions you have very little/zero comeback if anything goes wrong eh. That's what makes me a bit...

Now this might be worth keeping an eye on....

I'm on my second battery now, a BMS 10Ah Lithium-Ion.. which I've had for about 5 months now... my first battery was a 2 x 5Ah LiFePo4 and one of them failed after just 8 months. These were cheap batteries from eBay though made by some Chinese guy operating a small biz... the other one of the...

A bidding war broke out between 2 bidders! It's close to £800.

Courts applying laws incorrectly against e-bike owners?

I think looking at the guide this check refers to restrictors for mopeds/motorbike, less than 125cc and power not exceeding 11kW it says...so doesn't apply to e-bikes...unless they check the speed can't go above 27-30mph? (I thought mopeds had to be restricted to 50cc but it makes no mention of...

    Ebike kit

Heh just watched the video that thing really shifts! He said it doesn't even need licensing in some states, still a bicycle O.o

Courts applying laws incorrectly against e-bike owners?

Here's all the checks then you would need to satisfy for an e-bike capable of above 15mph to be licensed: - Speedometer check - Audible warning (horn?) - Tyres - General vehicle construction - Noise and silencers(?) - Handholds - Stand - External projections for un-bodied vehicles(?) - Rear...

Courts applying laws incorrectly against e-bike owners?

So the next class up for 2 wheeler takes it into normal moped class..max speed up to 45kmh/27mph.. £85 for the test, as opposed to £55 for the low powered moped. Here is the MSVA Guide from Vehicle & Operator Services Agency if anyone wants to check it out.

Courts applying laws incorrectly against e-bike owners?

Funnily enough I was reading about type approval last night after seeing a UK eBay seller offering compact combustion engines to fit bicycles, marketed as a faster alternative to e-bikes on eBay. I got to wondering what's involved and the cost of type approval, as his listing (no doubt some will...

Is it possible to add a 'twist and go' throttle to an Izip?

I'd be lost without mine. When I first got my bike I never used it and preferred PAS...but then I switched over and now I rarely use PAS. I think throttle offers more flexibility and the ability to stop and start quicker and more safely...but it does tend to make me lazy and pedal less :P Saying...

    Did we lose the thread?

It happens a lot on eBay too. You search for something by brand or model number only to find a rival product or similar products offered, using the brand name and model numbers etc as keywords in title. eBay does not allow that its a listing policy offence.

Courts applying laws incorrectly against e-bike owners?

So to break this down, in a nutshell... are road-legal e-bikes bicycles, or mechanically propelled vehicles in law? Perhaps it's not so simple, and they can fall into both categories, depending on the courts assessment and the offences/laws being applied?

I think Russ the forum admin has moved them all to a special place to review them, he's done a separate thread earlier explaining.

Now this might be worth keeping an eye on....

It's possible Steve, but the thing which would seem to make it unlikely is that the bidder is the highest bidder on multiple items from the bike seller. That combined with the high number of bid retractions (which are normally rare on eBay) raises some suspicions over that bidders account I...

Courts applying laws incorrectly against e-bike owners?

Following on with this interesting discussion from last night, here is a reply I had today from the barrister chap who runs the UK Cycle Rules website.. I can't quote him exactly (he's asked me not to, and stresses that this shouldn't be taken as legal fact or advice), anyway here is a...

Is it possible to add a 'twist and go' throttle to an Izip?

I noticed topelectricbikes.co.uk has some twist throttles specifically for izip bikes, but no mention of your downtown model. This might prove a useful source of tech info if your manual doesn't cover it...

Is it possible to add a 'twist and go' throttle to an Izip?

I guess you need some info on the controller or to examine it to see if it has the necessary connector or pin-outs for a throttle? Assuming it has, you can easily buy a cheap throttle to plug in... I think they're pretty much standard devices but might be wrong on that and could be some...
