What would be your ultimate spec ebike, money no object

Do high performance/spec components even matter that much on e-bikes? On normal cycles I can see the benefit.. for the lycra types that are into lightweight, high performance etc.. but for e-bikes, the motor compensates for cheaper/lower performance components?

I agree, and clearly some people are polar opposites in opinion on this issue EU/immigration on this forum, but this is such a nice place we all get along... many sites have crazy wars over these issues and don't seem to be able to respect others different politics without resorting to silly...

I'm with Lynda, I couldn't care less about the components as long as it delivers on looks and speed, light-weight etc. I don't know one make or part from another :-)

    Derestricting

Welcome colonel! I can't comment on any specific bikes, only from my own (limited) experience in self-building.. but I've found even with a low-powered bike (250W 36V 10AH) it can really move and maintaining speeds above 17mph on the flat without hardly pedalling much is not difficult at all...

    Stephen Fry Gadget Man

Those Yike bikes are insanely stupid I can't believe anyone would consider riding that on roads, unless they have a death wish. Almost as insane as the Australian fella on the news the other day who tried to ride a 15 ft salt water crocodile after climbing into the enclosure while drunk as a skunk.

    New build Carrera Kracken conversion.

Good work Steve, it's always nice to see conversion projects posted with photos of work in progress.. got to post some myself shortly! Looks like that bike will belt along when its done, look forward to seeing your first test ride report :) I'm curious, why did you decide to build your own rack...

JR Ewing aka Larry Hagman died

Cheers Lyn! Yeah your sisters farm looks lovely and impressive place, I was looking at the pictures of it, deciding which to use.. the sunny picture brightens up our site. OK I'll be needing your help later on maybe to do some testing if you're not too busy or inebriated :P I'll send you an...

JR Ewing aka Larry Hagman died

damn, you even found my hiding place :P Ok while I have your attention, a quick question for you.. you mentioned on Skype that the CP badge on the main page was all green (with no text on it?)... is that still the case? If so, what browser are you running? I'm fixing the profile creation...

JR Ewing aka Larry Hagman died

Awww Larry Hagman has died, aged 81. He had prostate cancer and cirrhosis of the liver again! He consumed five bottles of champagne a day for years according to BBC news. I just can't imagine drinking that much and it's a miracle he lived as long as he has, even before the liver transplant in...

rattle and hum... OK time to get some work done. I better get off this forum and do some CycleCharge coding! We need our charge point profiles and registration facility improving...or even just working might be nice :P

I remember actually now you mention it, seeing reviews at the time it launched saying batteries had a tendency to rattle on the rack so maybe the fitting wasn't very secure. Losing your batteries while riding is MAJOR design flaw heh. I also thought that the battery size choice was a bit...

    Easy as riding a bike.

There's probably some truth in that! They say certain pathways in the brain used often can remain intact so certain memories remain. Like when some people have a stroke, it's said the brain can re-route these damaged pathways and restore motor function or memories in some cases.

You just described the Mezzo. It should be called the Tardis bike. It folds *almost* as small as the Brompton, yet when its unfolded rides remarkably like a full size bike with the power and handling of one almost too. For £800 new (£250-£350 second hand) it's a viable alternative to the...

This is something I will not do again

I've said it before and I'll keep on saying it, lorries are the main cause of cycle deaths on our roads.. I always stay well clear of them and I think other cyclists would be wise to do the same.. never go alongside them or too close behind..and absolutely never over take them on the road..just...

The strange tale of how Shakespeare's skull ended up just 2 miles from my house

This is a beautiful and ancient medieval church in the village of Beoley that sits between Worcestershire and Warwickshire, near where I live. It's called St Leonard's and dates to the 12th century, when monks first built a church on the site back in Normandy times.. it's got this unusual tomb...

    GnG mid-drive kit

Yeah tis a shame, I'm hoping mine will arrive in time for my freewheel delivery or after Catsnapper is done with building my wheel so I can get a few rides in before the weather turns proper winter. I agree though, better they get it right first time and have it take longer, than rush orders...

    I LOVE crusie control!

My 26" is around 21kg total weight with battery and all.. not too bad eh. If I take off the controller and battery in handle bar bag, carry weight is a respectable 18.4kg.

1.82Kg / 6Ah = 303g per Ah = 3kg for 10Ah (or 3.6kg for 12Ah/2 batteries stacked) Not too bad really considering the metal casing.. my super light 10Ah from BMS weighs 2.3kg but it only has the plastic skin on it, and those Infineon are obviously weather/damage proof, and theft proof if locked...
