    Ebikes in China

I wonder what will happen as China's massive population enjoys greater wealth and spending power.. the state will have to put high taxes on cars or something to deter ownership? (if you subscribe to the declining oil production/rising cost stories, perhaps cars will be too expensive to run...

    Ebikes in China

Well it's just as well they all have e-bikes and can't yet afford cars... maybe in 10 years from now China will be like London! Where the e-bikes are swapped for cars!

Final limit at 250 watts EU ruling

Nationwide Building Society responded today to my e-mail... "due to the specialised nature of your travel insurance query, please call our specialist travel insurance centre" the same number I got transferred to when I called.. so I guess it's definitely no cover for e-bikes.

Cycle and walking 'must be norm' for short journeys

I just used my bike first time in a while to do a sorting office run as the idiots haven't been dropping me any mailing sacks as I could have just gone across the road to post office.. I enjoyed the ride, but it was bloody cold!! Even with 3 coats on and my scarf covering my face! I'm glad I...

Cycle and walking 'must be norm' for short journeys

Cycling and walking should be the norm for all short journeys, experts say. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence said people should shun their cars if a trip could be done in 15 or 20 minutes on foot or bike. It said the approach was needed to combat the "silent...

Any one give me a name for this bike

I agree, I've seen that bike before ages ago! I can remember a company used to sell them online, they were a lot cheaper than other e-bikes at the time, but still quite expensive.. about £600 or something. That's like the proper Chinese-domestic market moped-style that are popular over there eh...

That is very true flecc, it's the same in some markets, you have periods of rapid and extreme growth, but it cannot continue indefinitely, the cycle has a peak and then it declines, sometimes slowly, sometimes rapidly.. even products in markets have life cycles.. It shouldn't shock or surprise...

I think changing the present situation and forcing people to do some work or activity for welfare is going to be very challenging and difficult..not only because this culture is so entrenched into British society, but also because of our laws. At present the law states that the government has a...

They do keep massaging the figures and moving things around, rebranding etc, but not really getting down to tackling the core problem. Now we're moving to a "universal credits" approach they say and that's costing a fortune to do.

This approach really makes sense on so many levels.. not only does it prevent people falling into that poverty trap and help keep them fit and ready for work..but it also enables people to improve their skills and confidence.. if we had linked to community work, it helps reduce costs in local...

Tony Blair is to make a speech and urgent plea arguing for the UK to remain in EU and fully integrate.. I think the EU have put him up to this because they know UK is moving further away and exit looks on the cards... also Blair is being groomed for a permanent president position within EU and...

What would be your ultimate spec ebike, money no object

The holy grail for e-bikes will be batteries that are very small and light, yet extremely powerful for long distance and also very fast charging in 30 mins or less. Toshiba or Panasonic and some others were doing work in this direction as I recall.. they did launch a 30-min charge battery...

That's a good question David and one I'm yet to get a definitive answer to from Nationwide...I will find out tomorrow as if this policy does treat e-bikes as non-motorised vehicles, it may offer a handy way for e-bike owners to get £2 million third party cover (which includes damage to property...

CycleCharge website update - Charge Points

Just to clarify about the images/photos for Charge Points I posted earlier... You don't need to actually resize/crop your images to paste the URL into the photo box on your Charge Point profile, as the website will automatically "downsize" or "scale up" the image to the dimensions I mentioned...

I agree Tom.. I don't think the UK can, or is even in a position to, just help everyone who come from poor countries. I sympathise with their plight, but we have to think of the needs and interest of our own country and people too. There has to be clear limits and only very exceptional cases...
