How not to cross a train track with your bike

Anybody who would do that is obviously pretty stupid. With an approaching train, the last thing I would want to do is get in a tussle with an idiot. No knowing what he might do. Just film it so if he is killed, you can exonerate the poor driver.

    bike locks

Problem is the chain, I would have liked to see him cut that as well.

Do your spokes break with a hub motor?

Well, is the answer that spokes break because they are inferior foreign quality and not British made ones?

    Pet hates?

Strange how 'Beatnik' faded from use. Inspired by Sputnik, but after the 'Beatles', rapidly faded away.

Do your spokes break with a hub motor?

Problem is that we have pseudo motor bikes fitted with light weight bike components. In the future, I expect that we will see stronger, non- racing bike components Just look at the Spartament, no fiddling around with under specced bike components

Do your spokes break with a hub motor?

When you think of motor bikes, you realise that the rather meagre power of our electric motors should not break spokes. Perhaps those who do get broken spokes should fit thicker ones.

    Pet hates?

Sorry, 'Like' was very much 1950/60s Beatnik. US tombstone inscription for Beatnik, 'Like I'm really gone this time man, Don't dig me now.'

    Let's talk torque

Thanks Kiwi, I had looked at that one. I didn't think of a double chain ring, but that is also probably part of the answer and helps with getting a reasonable chain alignment which is a problem on by present 8 speed bike where the 11 tooth regularly suffers chain skip. Next problem is to find a...

    Let's talk torque

No Danidl I value your reply. Just as an ex motor mechanic, I fancy building my own from the ground up. I built my sailing dinghy, two camper vans and now feel that an ebike must be next. The point is that I do not have to compromise, I can build just what I want and for that reason, Bosch is...

    Let's talk torque

Thank you for all your help. I am considering building my next bike, the mechanical side will not be a problem but the electrics will be. I envisage a sort of 'Vicar's bike' from the 1950's similar to the Dutch Omafiets. It will have an upright riding position, north road handlebars etc. Full...

    Let's talk torque

Advancing years and living in a hilly district means that I need greater torque. Crank driving is the obvious answer and I have one. But I need more. Now a certain well respected member has advertised kits and at one time advertised a 350 watt motor, but has now withdrawn the advert. My next...

How do people get such long range?

Some years ago, I rode my 10ah bike back and fore along the seafront. Obviously it the path was completely flat and although there was a light wind, going in both directions evened things out. I did not pedal at all and got about 14 miles before the battery ran out.

Two new Woosh bikes are on the way

I must point out that my really cheap Woosh Gale folder has stood up to all sorts of terrible abuse. Perhaps being built cheap and solid rather than expensive and needing regular overhaul is better for the casual rider?

    lots of hate out there

I do wonder sometimes that if they had been called electric mopeds instead of masquerading as pedal cycles under the awful Civil Service term EAPC, then much of this dislike by the Lycras would not exist.

Brand new Haibike, two broken chains in first 35 miles, and other problems, advice needed

Until we know exactly what broke on the chain, we cannot give an accurate answer. If one of the side plates actually snapped, then it must be a bad batch of chains.
