Thanks to all who have responded so far. Would more Haibike and Giant ebike owners care to comment on their personal experiences with Yamaha motors ? Thanks again.

How much drag above 15.5 mph on your crank drive ebike?

anotherkiwi, I am not sure what you mean by "motors with normal sized chainwheels". Do you mean motors with direct drive (like the Active Line Plus), as opposed to the Bosch CX motor which has internal gearing?

How much drag above 15.5 mph on your crank drive ebike?

The real benefit of the zero resist Activeline Plus on my Cube Touring bike for me is that I can simply treat the bike as a normal one and only use the power assist as a HR moderator. Andy, that is exactly the sort of information I require. Many thanks. Haibike and Giant ebike owners, I am...

How much drag above 15.5 mph on your crank drive ebike?

I am interested to know how much drag (none, a small amount, quite a lot, like towing an adult hippo?) pedelecers experience above 15.5 mph with various motors such as Bosch Active Line Plus, Yamaha PW-X, Yamaha PW-SE, Giant SyncDrive Sport (Yamaha) on various ebikes such as Crossfuse, Cube...

    Man with a new Giant

Andy, How you are getting on with your Giant Explore +1? Would you recommend it? How does it perform on the hills? Do you need to keep up a high cadence? What happens when you reach the 15.5 mph cutoff speed? Do you feel as if you pedalling through treacle or is there little resistance? What...

    Ebike Help !

03murreayj, First of all, there is no need to spend £2k. How about saving £1200 instead (see below)? Hub drive, hydraulic brakes and a high gear (to prevent spinning out or pedalling air when attempting to travel fast on the flat) led me to choose an Oxygen MTB which I use exclusively on the...

    Commuter bike for hilly Bristol

“One shop I went to advised that I really should spend a little extra and go for a crank motor over a hub motor as hubs were "yesterday's technology" I am sure that many pedelecers with hub motors would raise an eyebrow at that particular comment. Post #4 may help you with the hub vs crank...

If you happen to hear a chainsaw when you are out on your bike...

Who claimed that a cycle helmet would offer protection against a falling 2 ton tree trunk? I suppose if the cyclist had decided to walk instead, then he/she would have had an even greater time to carry out a full risk assessment and act accordingly.

Bosch! The good, the bad and the ugly!
