the small magnets are glued to the lever, there is an adjustment screw underneath, can't use that now. The sensor is glued to the body, there's a 1mm gap between them.

I fitted sensors and magnets to my magura levers, they had sticky pads on but I used super glue at well, they haven't come off yet. If it's a rounded surface use a little bicarb of soda at a filler with the superglue.

I bought a pair of magnetic switches , glued with superglue onto the brake levers.

If you are replacing the brakes, try magura hydraulic rim brakes, I recently swapped the v brakes on my hybrid for maguras sourced on eBay. There are some copies available too, as well as s/h ones.

Why can't the connectors be fitted such that the live side is female?
