Yet more stuff in the media on battery fires and kits

You don't look like you are the 'full ticket' maybe? ;) :D Or they are just plain scared of you.

Yet more stuff in the media on battery fires and kits

This is the compromise made to support the Good Friday Agreement, and Brexit. After Brexit, there should have been a hard border between Eire (an EU country) and the UK. This would have prejudiced the G.F.A. which had basically removed all border controls between the North and South parts of...

Yet more stuff in the media on battery fires and kits

What, like with illegal immigration? We are on our 3rd/4th/5th vocal Home Secretary, and 5th/6th government that still hasn't managed to stop one single person being here illegally. Not long ago I read a headline where a criminal who been deported twice, was back in the country for a third...

Yet more stuff in the media on battery fires and kits

There is no point in introducing laws and standards, that can't be policed. How could anyone stop sub-standard imports (assuming they are) or people using fast chargers on equipment that isn't suitable for fast charging? The chemistry involved, is inherently volatile. The aircraft industry is...

    Time for a helmet camera?

In case anyone thinks all half inch diameter bullets are the same, and all cartridges firing those bullets are the same, this is a comparison image. Bullets from handguns are significantly slower than bullets leaving a (modern) rifle. Handguns are generally speaking tools that are easily...

    Time for a helmet camera?

A long, long time ago ..... ;) :D https://player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/watch-austin-officer-training-corps-at-wrekin-college-1935-online Some in the military were fully aware in 1935 another war, even civil war, might not be far away. In the early 1900's there is well known report of unarmed...

    Time for a helmet camera?

As I say, using a gun isn't easy, although the video segment showing the recoil of the rifle is years and years old. It deffo isn't a 50 cal though. People can learn to shoot anything well, but it takes practice. And good eyes.

And will die in prison. What a retirement plan. (He was an idiot.) "People" think using a handgun is easy, having watched too much TV or films suggesting how easy it could be. Guns come with recoil. Handguns are loaded to lower pressure, but shorter barrels mean they are often 'lively'. The...

    Time for a helmet camera?

No-one outside the British Armed Forces is permitted a machine gun, and only then, on restricted military ranges. You might be able to buy a handgun, but no-one other than a police officer (or government security) is allowed a working handgun/pistol. There is such a thing as a long barrel...

Old Carrera Vulcan Bafang rear hub conversion

On that bike, yes. But you might have identified a problem I hadn't foreseen with the road bike.... More on that tomorrow. (Bit busy today.)

Old Carrera Vulcan Bafang rear hub conversion

If Woosh did that hub in black, with black spokes and black rims, I would be happy to buy that system. For some reason, they only seem to stock silver/unpainted hubs?

    Time for a helmet camera?

No UK laws broken, provided you weren't actually armed. (And if you were, the police take a very dim view of rifles carried on two wheels. Carrying firearms in a car, you are expected to make them difficult to steal. That's not possible with two wheels.) All handguns are banned in the UK BTW...

Old Carrera Vulcan Bafang rear hub conversion

For my sanity, the answer has to be "yes". ;) :D I'm a minnow compared to your stature, but I'm still more comfortable on a 'Large', despite my height. There's not a cyclist or salesperson doesn't look at me and say "You're a Medium." But when the saddle has to be pulled up so far I'm leaning...

Old Carrera Vulcan Bafang rear hub conversion

My experience suggests otherwise. That front mudguard is identical to the one I put on all my bikes, which are generally used on mud trails, hard pack and woodland. It provides space for mud filled offroad tyres, and is easily removed for washing post ride. While I would agree a closer fitting...

    E-Bikes: The phenomenon, The Problem.

In truth, I think we all have our 'moments', some more lethal than others. I can think of at least 5 times I could have been killed, and sometimes wonder why I escaped the grim reaper. One I've already given a nod to, was of when I was still at school. I made an electrical circuit that ran into...

    E-Bikes: The phenomenon, The Problem.

Ownership isn't illegal. Using one in a public space is.... During the last couple of years, I must have seen hundreds of these. In fact a couple of weeks ago I was driving North/clockwise on the North Circular passing Ikea doing 40mph, when me and a good number of other vehicles were...

Build spec by committee, might that include you?

At the start of this enquiry (I think) I asked about 250w x 36v motors becoming 350w motors if used with a 48v battery. I don't recall getting an answer, and in hindsight, possibly I can understand why. The "500" hub package may well be the same as the "250", but I'd be surprised if the...

Yet more stuff in the media on battery fires and kits

30 years ago, I did some house refurbishment work with some off-duty firemen. I asked what was the most common cause of fires in the home, expecting an answer like chip pan fires. Nope, washing machines. More recently I suppose tumble dryers. Calls for banning washing machines or tumble dryers...
