Experiences with Open Source Firmware on the Tongsheng TSDZ2

As you say, the OSF does have minor bugs. In the one year I've been running OSF I'd say the advantages of a quieter motor and the flexibility in tailoring the motor response, far outweigh the odd software glitch. Having said that if you are happy with the OEM setup then don't bother with OSF...

Experiences with Open Source Firmware on the Tongsheng TSDZ2

Absolutely so (and this guy on YT thinks so too LINK) and folks say that the brass gear is more noisy. If you're a 'low power' rider like me, (250w, 36v riding mostly in ECO) then you'll be wondering whether to be concerned about overheating. To see if my type of riding might lead to a hot...

    TSDZ2 conversion Vs Full e-bike?

@Wheelie - If I have suitable donor bikes I would never consider buying a ready made ebike like those fitted with Shimano Steps, Bosch, Yamaha, Mahle X35 etc etc because: - Putting to one side the 'E' assist side of things, I'd be paying a lot of money for a bike that I may not be comfortable...

Experiences with Open Source Firmware on the Tongsheng TSDZ2

Thanks for posting your experiences regarding the potential overheat problems. 'Potential' is the right word in that some folks get in a bit of a state worrying about this, especially after reading posts on the Endless Sphere forum. There's then a rush to fit heat pads, temperature sensors and...

Your description of what to do looks correct to me.

    Inflation, what inflation?

When I read the thread title i thought......... oh well, back to bed then  but not before I've read the bean sprout growing bit!

    I’m new to ebikes.

I've no experience of Fiido bikes - all I would say is that torque sensing is the way to go, especially if you like to get exercised when riding IMHO. That's not to say that 'cadence' enabled bikes done give you exercise, but the cycling experience is somewhat different.

Cheap chinese cells (How bad are they really) ?

@Bonzo Banana I knocked up a tester on a piece of ply as per the schematic below. I also rigged up a similar watt meter that I can temporarily afix to the bike to also measure battery capacity - both very handy tools.

Cheap chinese cells (How bad are they really) ?

I was looking for something of around a couple of amp-hours capacity to carry as an 'emergency tank' for long rides where my normal 10Ah bottle battery might not suffice. If I could get another10 miles from the 'emergency tank' that would be fine. For the fun of it (as in I knew the given...

    My Cargo bike build.

Glad to see you're having fun with OSF - lots of things to tweek and play with. Maybe the one in the pic below?

    "new" hydraulic brakes.

We have Magura HS33 on our tandem and they are superb. We've cycle toured with full camping kit in some very hilly places and their stopping power has never failed to impress.

Ebikes and exercise goals ? Really ?

Horses for courses as they say - I went to an ebike because in the latter years when on my unassisted bike I was working my heart too hard (the cardiologists view, not mine but demonstrated unequivocally by my recent experiences of kicking my heart out of rhythm 6 times in the past 4 years after...

TSDZ2 OSF - Road legal in UK

Thanks for your replies folks - I'm now content that just because I could change my TSDZ2 settings through OSF, providing I don't (and my TSDZ2 was sold as a 250w version), then my motor IS NOT illegal. And fortunately converting my bike with a kit doesn't require type approval (that's only for...

Ebikes and exercise goals ? Really ?

So not a fact then, just a 'belief' (or opinion, albeit a well informed one)? Hey, there's me rising to the bait on an article by that trash newspaper - sorry!

TSDZ2 OSF - Road legal in UK

Hi @soundwave - Please don't think I'm trying to wind you up because I'm not - I just want to be sure of the law, but can you substantiate where it states that just having the means available to change controller power and speed settings makes the bike illegal? Yes, I can see that if there...

Ebikes and exercise goals ? Really ?

I started to read this article then saw the words Mail Online and immediately thought 'here comes a load of cr*p' and moved on to something more exciting like watching the grass grow.

TSDZ2 OSF - Road legal in UK

Why would changing the controller settings, (providing the parameters left the bike within the UK legal limits), render the bike not road legal? For instance, you may have a 750w motor that you want to make legal and you use OSF to do this. I think the wider question is, who the heck is (a)...

TSDZ2 OSF - Road legal in UK

My TSDZ2 didn't state the power either so as a belts and braces mesure I bought the labels like are shown in the pic below. BS EN 15194 explains in some length how the power should be measured - you'd need a lab setup to do this so a police officer on the street isn't going to be able to...

Space Blanket Poncho and Sock Liners on-bike winter insulation

Well @guerney - I'm looking forward to the pics of you in your winter wear o_O Every little helps though (insulation I mean) - as it gets colder I slip on these Toe Thingies over my shoes but when it's really cold, I don't cycle (I'm a Southern woos).
