    Tongsheng vlcd5

Re the lights: Out of interest were these 6v lights being powered from the 'lights' 'Y' connector shared with the speed sensor? I've read several times that this power source is only good for around 0.5 amps which gives a total lighting power of just 3 watts. Thus if your lights were more than...

Help! TSDZ2 throttle & e brake info please

So, an update on the ebrake question - and I am running the OSF firmware v20.1C.1 I'd promised feedback if anything untoward happened and today it did in that I noticed that although I'd stopped pedalling, the motor was still running on. The 'free running' power seemed to be quite low and with...

    Power take-off from charging port

Thank you for that insight @Nealh - I will indeed put that idea away where it will not resurface again .

    Tongsheng vlcd5

The simple to use java Configurator that works alongside the OSF (open Source Firmware) offers the ability to display certain parameters (as mentioned by @JohnE above). I've only lightly tinkered with this function for my VLCD6 display but haven't as yet got it to work - but I'm not bothered...

    Power take-off from charging port

I have a 36v 10Ahr bottle battery with the charging socket easily accessible when attached to the bike and I'm wondering if I/what load I could plug into it? 36v is measurable at the socket so obviously a current path exists from the battery back through the BMS to the charging socket. I've no...

The brilliant (IMHO) Lidl saddles are back.

I own and use regularly 3 Brooks B17 on my bikes (one tourer, one audax, one tandem). I bought all of them second hand (or should that be second ars*d?) and in all cases I've found them comfortable. The one on the tandem is a B17S, supposedly more suited to the female form but I found is as...

2015 Trek X Caliber does it fit mid drive?

I don't know but if you were to take some pics of the bike around the area where the chain stays joint the seat tube/down tube/bottom bracket, an informed decision might be forthcoming. Something like this maybe?

What's the most 'universal' low-cost battery format?

A question really: if choosing something like one of the smaller bottle batteries like the 36v 5Ahr ones, are they not a battery configuration of 10S2P? If only 2P then is not the maximum current draw of the cells a more critical issue? For instance, taking the Samsung INR 18650-29E for a 2P...

    Standard bottle battery ?

Well, I got my initial figures (no VAT) this morning but I've just tried it again and this time I've got the same as you! I have no explanation!!!

    Standard bottle battery ?

I've just followed my own link from above and going into the order process as far as getting the option to PLACE ORDER, the battery plus post comes to 176 USD so just over 129 GBP. So whether by placing the order VAT is added, I can't confirm of course, but it didn't when I ordered it.

Determining Battery State of Charge (S-o-C)

Thanks for the reply @Nealh and I've book-marked the lygte-info.dk as it has some useful battery info. Who knows what batteries (and their discharge curve) are in my Chinese battery pack. I've had a little play with the graphs you provided and the Samsung 29e and LG mh1 have similar discharge...

    TSDZ2 Spindle/bottom bracket bearings

What you never get a sense of is how those reporting problems actually use their bikes. As you say, there's light and heavy motor uses and light and heavy riders, and hot, moderate and cold climates. If only we knew in what circumstances the problems occured, we'd be much the wiser. In the case...

Determining Battery State of Charge (S-o-C)

I use a very simple handlebar display with my TSDZ2 (the VLCD6) which doesn't show actual battery voltage but the typical 4-bars 'fuel guage' system for showing S-o-C. It isn't even mildly accurate (and I didn't expect it to be) but the OSF Java configurator offers the ability to set the various...

    TSDZ2 Spindle/bottom bracket bearings

Thankyou for that link @Sturmey which discusses the changing of the bearing on the drive side (aka the 'sprag clutch'). It does provide good links to Ali Express for replacement parts of varying qualities e.g. CSK30P or BB30-1k-k or BB30-2k-k all of which are sized 30 x 62 x 16mm. It was...

    TSDZ2 Spindle/bottom bracket bearings

The TSDZ2 replaces the bottom bracket cartridge bearings on the unconverted frame of course, but at what point do you thing the spindle bearings in the TSDZ2 need checking/changing? And of course, where do you get replacements from? As far as I can see from the manual that I have, the drive side...

    Bafang 36v or 48v BBS01b 250w mid-drive full kit - lowest price ever? - £230 inc. shipped from UK

I'm not sure what purpose having a wattage label would serve for the TSDZ2 (apart from conformance with EN15194) given that there is only one motor whose power is determined by firmware and which is really not difficult to change? I've no knowledge of the Bafang mid-drives but have I read that...

    Bafang 36v or 48v BBS01b 250w mid-drive full kit - lowest price ever? - £230 inc. shipped from UK

Hi Peter, Out of interest, why did you hate the 36v 250w? The ES forum has quite a lot to say about the TSDZ2 heat problem and different folks have fitted temperature sensors and additional heat sinks to help mitigate the issue. What is never clear though is where those suffering the heat...

    Bafang 36v or 48v BBS01b 250w mid-drive full kit - lowest price ever? - £230 inc. shipped from UK

Alternatively you could buy a 250w 36v TSDZ2 from PSW Power, shipped from their German warehouse (no additional taxes and delivered in around a week) for around 320 USD. It is the same motor as the 48v one - you just need to get a handle on the Open Source Firmware and run the Configurator and...

    Spare battery just in case

I'm just settling in to my recently purchased TSDZ2 (36v 250w) and the 36v 10Ahr bottle battery On a not too hilly ride and with me putting in 'not a lot' of effort, I'm getting around a 50 mile range from the battery I'm now considering greater distances and maybe more challenging terrain, so...

Changing Wheels on Hub drive bike

I have always got my wheel rims from Spa Cycles who list the ERD (Effective Rim Diameter) of their rims and you need this dimension when calculating spoke length. You need to shop around for spokes - Rose Bikes in Germany where my preferred source but post Brexit I don't think they sell to the...
