Maintenance aside, my biggest complaint about full suspension bikes, is pedal strike. Not something that I have once experienced on any of the three hardtails that I have owned, but have suffered with it on many an occasion on the full suspension bikes that I have either owned or ridden...

They do work and work very well, but I prefer not to have the maintenance of the rear shock absorber, and also bearing and bush replacement that a full suspension bike requires when put through constant wet and muddy use.

If I might make a suggestion. Have a private chat to georgehenry. His bike requirements are seemingly fairly similar to that of your own, and I believe that he has been using both crank drive and hub drive. This is one of his bikes, and the thread makes for very interesting unbiased reading...

Not a problem. You sign a disclaimer against personal injury etc, and the bike is there to used. :)

The jumps don't do it for me either. :) It is a good venue to start from, as the track gets very popular at weekends, so there is plenty to see. The demo day is just starting from the venue, and whilst people are free to ride any element of the track/tracks, it isn't expected.
