"Conversion kits to blame in 40% of ebike fires, says London Fire Brigade"

Yes, there will be a choice of batteries, just as there is a choice of motor and sometimes of controller and display as well. I'd guess ,ore kits come with batteries than without.

    AI cameras recognise texting drivers

There is a big difference as to how quickly the errant hand can become re-available for control. Unless you don't value your phones very much it is quite a long time for most phone uses. Plus in many cases the rider is looking at the phone instead of the road.

    Wisper Wayfarer H7 review

We have a Bike Hod trailer with seat post connection from around 35 years ago. I made a wooden seat to fit a couple of small kids that would unclip very simply. Fairly basic small wheels. I expect a mount from the chainstay rear axle is better, but ours never gave any any problems, and very...

Help! Anyone able to convert a bike for me? London

Agreed. It may be a bit daunting when you don't know what to expect, but if you are used to regular bike maintenance it is very straightforward. If you buy a complete kit from the likes of Woosh you don't need any real knowledge of the electrical detail. Make sure with them before you buy...

    Older Bosch Motor replacement

Are you sure it's the motor. It could be worn front sprocket or chain. Check with Performance Line Bearings (see soundwave's post above which just arrived as I was typing) They may be able to service your old one, or find a replacement.

    Woosh Another Brompton Owner

You'll have seen that people here (including me) are generally pro Woosh for decent value and excellent customer service. Also that Swytch is one of the main options for Brompton conversion, but their customer service is often not at all good.

Steel or aluminium frame to fit hub motor

Cheap steel is never very good; heavy and harsh. Quality steel (eg 531 etc or even good Cro_moly) is good. Aluminium can be harsh; the main downside is that you need to be very careful fitting a front hub motor to aluminium forks. Many aluminium frames come with steel forks.

    Cytronex review

I think the expectation of a kit like that is that you won't be using anything from it for a lot of the time; but it's there when you need it. Steady speeds and almost flat riding means the weight isn't that important. Certainly not the kit for me (event though they are almost our closest bike...

    Mirrors...or Not ?

I find them surprisingly good. I just use just one on the right. I'd prefer a slightly narrower field of view; cars are misleadingly small in the mirror.

Mid-drive chain and drive train wear measurements

I fairly often take out the free months Prime when offered. As soon as I claim free Prime and make the order I cancel; you still get the rest of the month anyway.

    Camping Chair

Not the same as a chair, but the simple folding seat cushion is really light and compact and makes a big difference (especially in keeping your bum dry). e.g...

    Ebike battery fire

I don't think that the Japanese technology is definitely better or more innovative; rather the attributes are targeted differently. Their main (really important) innovation seems to have been the breakthrough concept around the 80's that a car might be reliable. It never seemed to occur to the...

Old Carrera Vulcan Bafang rear hub conversion

as long as the total power (motor plus rider) used on the assisted bike is the same as the rider power used on the unassisted bike. Or to put it differently, fitting the mid drive motor doesn't add to drive train wear, but using it does.

Low step for a man yes or no?

Absolutely. Especially as in 10 years you'll be a man in his 70's.

Help! Looking for an alternative to Swytch and would appreciate some advice in Conversion Kits General Discussion.

I third the Woosh suggestion. To see the Woosh options go to https://wooshbikes.co.uk/?hubkits, and search 'Which Motor?' To get an idea of what the XF07 can do, see https://ebikes.ca/tools/simulator.html?motor=MXUS_XF07&batt=B3614_PF&grade=10&axis=mph&hp=50&cont=cust_17_70_0.03_V You can...

lessons learnt and now even more advice required

We've been very happy with our Motus ... rather a different beast as 2016 low step model with hub gears. That one looks very good value; it is a the least powerful Bosch motor though. You'll probably just get 60 miles assisted range if you use lowest assistance. See...
