Help! Bike for semi-specialised use - purchase advice

The main advantages of mid-drive are for mountain biking or very steep hills. I guess your beach is pretty flat, so I agree with the others that hub drive is definitely what you want. You should probably keep to the legal pedelec rules for riding on the road, 250w max continuous rated power, no...

    Hello all! New joiner here.

More detailed photos of the motor, the battery and controller (probably both tucked into that bag) and display would be a good start; and a more detailed description of the fault. Good luck, someone should be able to help you sort it. An easy first thing to check is the connector from the...

Fitting a 12 volt regulator to 36v bike.

Bikes4two beat me to it .... Just to clarify, 15.5mph is the maximum assisted speed. As long as you can pedal it up to 50mph or more that's fine. It's even legal in a 20mph zone, as most speed limits apply to motor vehicles, and and EPAC/Pedelec does not classify as a motor vehicle.

Search for Swytch Promton Motor 100SX-6XX-36H-S

IGNORE, INCORRECT The motors usually come as complete hub. I don't think you can change the motor without changing the hub; and thus the spokes. If you just don't feel able to rebuild the wheel you can buy a wheel complete with motor.

Does anyone actually use the term 'Pedelec'?

The term e-bike is perfectly correct when applied to an EAPC. However, many other vehicles can also be correctly labelled e-bike as well, so it isn't a correct term where you want to be precise about the legal status. Even using the term 'legal e-bike' isn't strictly correct; most 'illegal'...

Does anyone actually use the term 'Pedelec'?

'Pedelec' does seem an odd term and not in that common use. Some people use it for 'legal' e-bikes allowed on roads, bridleways etc. The official term for that is 'Electrically assisted pedal cycle (EAPC)', but I've never heard that in general use. I'd not associated 'pedelec' with the type of...

    Ebike muggings

A friend was on his bike on a canal in London when attacked. Not only bike stolen, but he ended up in the canal with laptop in a backpack, ruined. He was on the phone to my son at the time (shouldn't have been); my son couldn't at all work out what was happening.

Major incident declared at London Luton airport after huge fire breaks out

It's not cars that are the principle danger, but car parks. I wonder what proportion of cars destroyed by fire each year are destroyed because of a fire started in the car, or started by a fire in another car.

    Help! battery controller,.

It could be at the bottom of the battery holder. Take the battery off and you may find a compartment just below where the battery slides on. The compartment is probably secured by a few screws.

Seeking Advice on Affordable Ebike for 20-Mile Daily Commute (£500-£600 = Budget)

I agree with the comments on torque sensor and battery. The advert claims an absurd 75km range (without even using the 'up to' getout (***)), but it should be good for 20 miles. As above, you will be limited for choice of replacement when the time comes. Mudguards aren't always that easy to...

Seeking Advice on Affordable Ebike for 20-Mile Daily Commute (£500-£600 = Budget)

As others have said, it will be difficult at that price range. If possible see if you can find one without front suspension. The cheap suspension you'll get at that price range will be very heavy, won't give very controlled suspension, and may well not last very long. However, industry fashion...

Getting on and off a bike

We've got a step-through solo bike. The only time I miss the crossbar is when I want to stand over the bike and keep it upright; eg if I stop to talk to someone for a minute or two. Having just done my knee in (detached tendon) I won't be back on the the solo or our tandem for a bit. The tandem...

Why were Full Throttles banned in 2016?

I believe the EU's position is quite strict; no throttles. This applies if you take you UK legal throttle bike to the EU. I read somewhere (probably on this forum) that France in particular is taking quite strong enforcement action; not sure how much that is for overpowered/overspeed motors and...

    Raise my handlebar

You could get a longer stem, possible with an angle/reach adjustment. That stem is already quite long, but has quite a far reach forward. On our tandem we use bent bars which both give me higher bars and an angle swept back. The sweep back might not work very well if you use the mountain bike...

    Riding in the rain footwear

I agree. when I used to commute and it was rainy I used wellies for an about 1/2 hour trip each way and didn't find them a problem. I was usually on-road if the weather was bad. I've not tried Seal Skins for riding. I tried for walking and they fairly quickly got a small puncture; that allowed...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

I certainly hope it doesn't. We may see, but probably any effect will be so masked by other stupidities we will never know for sure the effects of the change in policy and the effects of the in-fighting. Our Conservative MP had already sensibly announced some time ago that he won't stand at...

Prices of the electricity we use to charge

It's a shame, but it seems that Sunak's aggressively anti-environment position (already bad before yesterday's leaks, now terrible) is likely to gain him a significant number of votes at the next election. I guess the Uxbridge by-election result has fed a bias he already had; making him...

Help! Recommend me a front hub motor

We've got an XF07 (700c) on the front of our tandem. We'd certainly like more power but it has been a great success over the 5 years we've had it. It was the only legal one we could find when we bought it. For our use it would have been better with a motor wound for lower speeds: more torque...

Do police even bother to check if an e-bike is legal?

I believe (but ???) that a legal pedelec ebike (250w/15.5mph) comes under exactly the same laws as a pushbike; including not being included in the speed limit laws (as long as unassisted at that speed of course). Not that relevant in his case, he's probably breaking several other laws more...
