New ‘death by dangerous cycling’ law could punish killer riders (Saturday Telegraph)

They won't call a general election, and Boris is coming back to save them!

    Inflation, what inflation?

The £5 bell I bought from Halfords around the time I bought my bike in the Spring of 2015 had the temerity to break the other day. I returned to Halfords in Guildford where I had bought the first bell to buy a new one. The stock levels seemed quite depleted, perhaps due to the general supply...

New ‘death by dangerous cycling’ law could punish killer riders (Saturday Telegraph)

Grant Shapps is back, but fortunately not as Transport Secretary. He will be inflicting his own finely honed incompetence on The Home Office. The weasel that is Gove is wriggling and squirming and may soon be back in play as well. As Frazer in Dads Army would have said, Doomed.......

    Preventing bike being stolen

If your bike has quick release wheels/seat post, change them for allen key secured ones. Most thieves are looking for something easy to nick and quick release parts are a sitting duck. Allen key replacements are cheaply available on Ebay. If you can. store your bike at work away from public...

Haibike sDuro HardSeven SL 2015 Yamaha (7 Month 1600 Miles)

Anniversary of my retirement..... Looking back through this in effect online dairy I noticed that the 12th of October 2021 was the last time I rode my Haibike to work and back. How has my retirement effected my riding. Initially I left The Haibike in the garage. But a check of my mileage...

    Mirider 1 off road

With great weather where I am in Surrey this weekend my son and I have been on rides on both Saturday and Sunday adding up to a total of 52 miles. I rode my hard tail Haibike Yamaha mountain bike of 2015 vintage, but my son road my 11 year old Oxygen Emate City. A large proportion of our rides...

    Changing from 44 to 48 t

That is the trouble when answering any question, there are usually quite a few variables that effect the answer and can mean that two answers from separate people to the same question can give different answers and both be correct! When I first started using my Haibike Yamaha to commute to work...

    Changing from 44 to 48 t

I used a narrow wide 42 tooth chain ring. I bought my hard tail Yamaha crank drive Haibike to commute to work using off road tracks for nearly all the journey. As a shift worker I traveled mostly in the early to mid afternoon. I then charged my battery while I worked and then rode home mostly...

    Changing from 44 to 48 t

Crank drives wear your transmission. If you spend a lot of time in top gear you will wear it out quickly as cogs with less teeth are more susceptible to wear. Using a 12 tooth cog instead of an 11 will help. Raising your gearing to the point where a 13 tooth or 14 tooth gear works at the speed...

DVSA take companies to Court for selling illegal bikes.

Thanks flecc for your excellent explanation. After buying my second Oxygen Emate for £100 out of the classified section I now have two simple rear hub bikes with unrestricted throttles that are both legal. Happy days.

DVSA take companies to Court for selling illegal bikes.

When I bought my first 2011 Oxygen Emate it came with an unrestricted throttle. The law allowed my bike to be sold and be legal in 2011. What changed? I have a feeling it was something to do with Europe. So perhaps the full throttle dispensation could be made again without having to put your...

DVSA take companies to Court for selling illegal bikes.

I must admit as a simple transport vehicle I love my Oxygen 2011 Emate, a geared rear hub cadence sensor bike with unrestricted throttle and two brake cut outs, well one now. Works really well. As Bonzo Banana said, when pulling away the throttle allows you to have full power from the off. You...

    When to replace rims?

Now you ask, I am not sure. I expect they are a coating. The wear rate was startlingly less than the previous rims. Although I don't know, the advent of hydraulic disc brakes that appeared on Marin's next years model, and became prevalent would have meant rims no longer had to put up with brakes...

    When to replace rims?

Yes. Might be a bit overkill on your bike, but they would probably never wear out.

    When to replace rims?

Back when I was acoustic mountain biking in sandy surrey with powerful rim brakes I was changing the rims every year! Then a friend sold me cheaply some Mavic ceramic rims that refused to wear out until I stopped riding that bike. It was a very nice Marin bike but I bought the last year of rim...

5 years old, time for new bike?

He has ridden 6,000km, 3,728 miles, so a reasonable mileage. Those CX motors were vulnerable to water ingress, as all crank drive motors are to a lesser or greater extent. As soundwave has done, you can now have that motor rebuilt with all new bearings. My first Yamaha crank drive motor...
