Anyone ever tried to implement regenerative braking?

Terrain probably counts for a lot, much of the time I'd manage with a spoon brake so there's nothing to recover, but descending long steep hills coasting drag uses nowhere near the energy available for regen. Regen's stress reversals used to mean it needed a direct drive (DD) hub motor, and for...

    Revos bike motor

"PAS no signal whether peddling forward". If you mean no indication on the display it's possible that reviving the PAS sensor (or signal) will do the trick. Try repositioning the sensor in case it's been bumped out of alignment etc. Check (or post a photo of) its plug to see whether you could...

    Battery Balance ports

Dsub seems ideal but I haven't found a straight through 15 way cable yet, VGA cables have certain pins connected in the plug and <15 cores. Be wary of sharp edges when routing the internal connections!

    controller box loose

@saneagle I used thick washers under the screw heads to keep the bends in those pipe clamps from sagging under tension, or lessen it anyway. Am I doing it wrong? Didn't seem worth the faff but I've a load left over (although smaller than 36mm I think).

    controller box loose

I'd use a fat black ziptie and some rubber e.g. inner tube between frame and box to stop it slipping. It's cheap, there's nothing to make and it'll show less than alu strips. You can get strip metal pipe clamps the shape of your originals, with optional rubber sleeves, but the bends only hold a...

Official Statement from YOSEPOWER regarding the "Triangle Battery Recall" Post

Kudos firstly to WheezyRider for having a sharp eye for a potential problem and thank you Yosepower for reviewing your design, to do so within days is all the more impressive.

Confused and looking for 48v 250w rear hub since Yose won't sell me 250w 36v kit with 15ah battery

What are the specs for the motor and controller? My hunch is a fried controller might behave like that, is it in free air or in a bag/box? You need saneagle!

    Swapping wheel rims

If the new bike has disc brakes you could probably use your 26" wheel. If not have you checked the spoke counts are the same?

Official Statement from YOSEPOWER regarding the "Triangle Battery Recall" Post

YP claim that the wire can take the heat and the fuse will keep it in spec, saying the fuse would rupture at its continuous rating. As you say that's not what the fuse is for but it further suggests their concern is with protecting the wire from over-temperature rather than the cells. In a way...

Official Statement from YOSEPOWER regarding the "Triangle Battery Recall" Post

Well said. That's the case for total heat in the enclosure. Where a wire crosses 'quite hot' cells you need to avoid creating a hot-spot so it's the power per unit length that matters. Again, users can't know if there's any actual problem but with a safety-related item it's right to ask the...

Official Statement from YOSEPOWER regarding the "Triangle Battery Recall" Post

Several people have asked several times how hot this wire will get. We haven't seen hard evidence that it gets too hot (an "actual problem") and we can't expect engineering answers from customer liaison. Still it's a bit worrying that Lily-YOSEPOWER's response has been the opposite of what...

"Brompton weighs in on better battery laws to clamp down on eBike fires "

I disagree. Battery fires have raised issues you can view as: Future: a need for improved technologies, safety standards and regulation. Past: a legacy situation of battery fires occurring and posing a risk to life. Present: a scramble to impose fixes and an opportunity to...

"Brompton weighs in on better battery laws to clamp down on eBike fires "

That's dangerous thinking. Bike laws are rarely enforced against individuals but the proposed bill acts against the suppliers of batteries, chargers, ebikes and conversion kits, and they're much easier to pin down. If Certsure were named as an assessor, this certifying body that funds a de...

    My new favourite battery

AIUI that rated 48V limit stems from wanting to keep the charger voltage below the SELV threshold of 60V (so both 13S and 14S/52V batteries should qualify if rated 48V). However EN 15194 4.2.4 refers to the Low Voltage Directive, not SELV, and Low Voltage is sometimes given as 75V to 1500V DC...
