In principle, you can use any controller with its matching LCD. Upgrading to a KT one will make your bike much nicer to ride. You'll have to do a bit of wiring and probably some soldering to wires.

Lithium batteries and BMSs can't just fail like that. The cause of your problem is probably something simple, like a fuse or broken connection. What is the battery's current rating? Can it supply 30A continuous? Not many silver fish type can!

You can take both wheels off that bike in seconds. I have a Cykel towball rack, but I often just take the front wheel off and put the bike behind the front seats because I get more MPG, it's quicker and I can drive faster without worrying about the forces on the bike, plus it stays dry in the rain.
