Heaviest haul with the Homcom trailer so far

More of a sweet potato, butternut squash kind of guy myself, but looks tempting!

my office building is instituting a ban on lithium-ion cell e-bikes. what options do i have?

If you work for a large company, they will probably have an environment officer, and certainly an environmental policy, and even the top level mission and quality statement is likely to mention environmental issues. The company's own policies are a powerful tool to argue for change, and if the...

Campaign for an outdoor bike shed with charging facilities.

    Sprocket wear

I have probably been quite fortunate, as my two most impairing failures happened one within reach of a bike shop, and the other during a work week on my 4km commute, so neither hurt me greatly. Any failure I can cure on the road is for me no longer a problem, as long as my spares and tools are...

    Sprocket wear

The contents of my tool and spares kit are strongly influenced by 'single point of failure analysis' and has gradually grown from pump, puncture kit and tube to include gear cable, chain quicklink, chain tool and spare wheel sensor pickup. Always had a bike shop close enough to bail me out when...

Connecting identical packs in parallel with a single BMS

New version next year. I hadn't seen the note about the BMS. Fairly expensive but with Grin you always get top quality.

    Battery life

You can achieve that result without the need for a fancy charger simply by understanding how long it takes to charge your battery, and only putting it on for long enough to get to about 80%, and never running it below 20%. That's half the battle. The other half is down to size and quality of...

    Sprocket wear

Is your front ring ok? And chain length, derailleur tension? I've no direct experience of higher power and its effects, but my front chain ring only lasts 3 chains worth of miles.

    Can this battery be revived?

400 miles too far for me!

    Sprocket wear

How many miles per year, and how often is the chain replaced, and do you measure the chain elongation to judge when to change it? The 750W if used at high power will be a big chunk of the cause. I get 3,000 miles maximum out of a chain to 0.5-0.7% elongation, but that is a puny 250W 40Nm motor.

Connecting identical packs in parallel with a single BMS

The Grin Ligo battery system is modular: each block is 10s1p and a shade under 100Wh, which means some airlines will accept a bunch of them, when they would not accept a single battery of the same total capacity. Each block has it's own BMS. https://ebikes.ca/36v-ligo-plus-battery.html

    Can this battery be revived?

It can't do the whole job, and needs to be manually monitored to prevent overcharging. It works because the charger is dumb, so doesn't worry about being dragged down below 5V, and at 500mA, it is slow enough for a careful user to disconnect it before exceeding 4.2V on the target cells. But not...

    Server move

I'm a long way from being able to do everything on my phone! Image resizing being one example. When I crushed my old G7 and upgraded to G30 I had even more pixels to worry about.

Connecting identical packs in parallel with a single BMS

I prefer multiple batteries over one big one just for resilience. If one fails, it doesn't stop you, if you run one flat, you have a reserve etc.. Your three packs with all those cross connections need careful mechanical assembly so that they can withstand whatever knocks and jolts they may get...

Connecting identical packs in parallel with a single BMS

I'm intrigued as to why! Is this for huge capacity, or to support very high current/power? The current ratings are very important for the first and last interconnections, much less so for the intermediate ones as if cells within each pack are properly similar, there will very low currents in...

    trackers / theft protection

On a really fancy bike you would want two. One quite well hidden, that might be found and removed and trigger a false sense of security, and a really well hidden one that nails the blighter.

Tyring to buy a conversion kit through the bike to work scheme

The guidance document makes no mention of conversions, which suggests they are not eligible. Given that employers own the equipment, not the employee, they would have a strong interest in ensuring it complies with the terms of the scheme...

    swytch bike

Worth fiddling with the connector at the other end too. Unplug/replug/wiggle, in case connection is not perfect. Same with the main unit mounting. Check no moisture in connectors and so on.

    swytch bike

Either the sensor is kaput, or the gap between the moving part and the stationary part is too big, or the alignment is wrong. Play around with it and see if you can make it flash, if not talk to Swytch.
