    Battery drains fast!

So what is your typical speed, not the maximum. Are you riding at 20mph all the time, or a bit more, or a bit less? This, plus hills, plus weight of you and the bike, allows a rough estimate of energy requirement.

    Battery drains fast!

The battery indicator is crude, just a voltmeter, so the only way to know range is to ride until it stops. How fast are you going, how many stops and starts? What quality is the battery? Cheap generic, or a known, good specification?

    For Sale Bargains

Another striking deal is this Shimano three speed hub gear, which could be chain or belt driven (if the frame allows) for a low maintenance front hub commuter conversion... https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/p/nexus-3d55-3-speed-gear-hub ...although even with a free donor bike it still...

I think I've found my next bike

Watch out for that little chain roller: a GSD I know had it fail, the chain drop onto the frame and wear a deep groove. All hidden behind chain guard, so not very easy to see.

Wisper Rear Brake Improvement - Suggestions Please

You can judge friction in the cable by releasing the curved metal tube from its bracket thing as though removing the wheel, and then feeling how much force is needed to move the cable in each direction. It should be practically zero. Also try wiggling the brake arms to check for excessive...

    Folding ebikes

Battery size matters - you probably don't need 750Wh, but the 575Wh or thereabouts is probably necessary for your 40 miles without range anxiety.

Chain flapping noise after new drivetrain installed - Any ideas?

The drive side of some of those teeth looks very steep and a bit undercut. A gentle filing exercise might help.

    Springtime refurb, good, bad, ugly...

Not Phase 2: I had a slide on black ice which bent derailleur hanger and cage, which a couple of days later resulted in cage in spokes. I thought that had broken a spoke until I saw the bike in daylight, when I saw it had actually pulled through the rim. A close look showed many cracks around...

    Springtime refurb, good, bad, ugly...

For now, here is my new cassette and standard 114 link chain in 13T top but 1 gear. And from a different angle. Needs more links. I added 10 as it looked so short. Here in bottom 51T gear at 124 links. And in 11T top gear. A couple too many, to be removed during phase 2.

    Help! Help buying first ebike

Tomorrow when I get back from work, my Shimano E5000 mid-drive will have clocked up 15,000 miles with no battery, motor or display issues. The speed sensor has been replaced once. It is used almost daily, in all weathers, and for the winter half of the year, never sees 'dry'! The rest of the...

Chain flapping noise after new drivetrain installed - Any ideas?

With a very critical eye, check your front chainring. Unless it is also new, it is the exception and they do not last forever. I got only 3 chains worth of life out of my first one, by which time there was extreme chain suck with new chain number 4, and on examination rather hooked teeth. I...

Wisper Wayfarer M7 age and granny gearing

You will probably need to upgrade the derailleur even with 11-42T, plus a few extra chain links.

Wisper Wayfarer M7 age and granny gearing

The M7 is mid-drive, so cassette. The H7 is hub drive, and I don't know the answer in relation to that one!

Posting Lithium batteries in the UK

This is UN3480 / UN3481 dangerous goods, with requirements for packaging, labelling and documentation throughout the journey. Hard to achieve as a private seller. Bear in mind (1) unlikely though it is, you can't be certain of the transport mode a parcel will take, so small and light might fly...

    Ebike batteries

If it gets detached and goes bouncing down the road, a well constructed battery with well supported cells and properly spot welded interconnections will probably be fine in an impact at those speeds. But you wouldn't want to be hit by it. Trapped between a vehicle and something solid and...

Having to replace Cassette after only 500 miles Cube Touring Pro 625

Mine has loosened 3 times in 24,000km. When retightened on the road, the old fashioned judgement way rather than a torque wrench which I don't carry with me, sitting on the splined tool in a borrowed vice, ' turn the wheel as hard as you would an old bus steering wheel, without power steering'.
