Replacement bearings/rear axle for Big Bear SHUNFENG hub

Hi Guys Sorry if this has been raised before (I can't find the answer if it has), but the rear bearings on my Big Bear are making an increasingly unpleasant noise and I would like to replace them. From memory they are a sort of sealed bearing and come complete with the axle? The ever helpful...

    Big Bear Abroad

Hi Jules, Just been out with my 6 ft level and tape measure to try and work out the gradient of our hill. By my calculations it's mostly 11% or less but there is one ludicrous part of our little lane which is 20%!! The Bear copes O.K. with the 11% and I've been up much steeper bits in the...

    Big Bear Abroad

Hi Folks, I know there have been a few reviews now of the BB but each person's experience is different and someone somewhere may find something useful in mine - I hope so anyway! A bit of background first. I'm a sixty year old wildlife nut spending roughly half the year in Limousine, France...

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Here's an update on my "mystery noise" - it was the freewheel. Just recently got back to France, changed the freewheel and problem solved. With hindsight I could have pinpointed the culprit earlier - taking the freewheel off by using the removal tool in a vice it was clear that there was a lot...

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Thanks Trex, But as I've got to change the freewheel anyway thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. I thought about changing the chain ring but it would mean losing the chain guard. One of the brackets is welded to the frame - so it would look a bit ugly. Cheers, Phil

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Having decided to change the freewheel for a DNP 11T-30T I've been looking for a DNP removal tool in case I ever want to get it off again. I have an Icetoolz 09X3 tool which fits the Shimano freewheel on the bike. I have read that this may not work for DNP freewheels as they need a long reach...

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Just came across this dormant thread on 11 tooth freewheels. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/dnp-epoch-freewheels-and-gearing-question.13139/ Don't much like the sound of the potential of the freewheel case splitting on the dnp freewheel. Is this still an issue? Found a Shimano 13 -...

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Thanks Flecc I'll get in touch with them. Thanks Mike, pretty sure it's not the pedal bearings - I've had them go on other bikes, and they're really noisy at the start of the power stroke usually, whereas this noise is seemingly random. It may take me a while to get the freewheel and fit it -...

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Thanks guys, that makes a lot of sense. Also explains why the noise doesn't correspond to any position of the cranks/pedals. One of the slight niggles that I mentioned is that I find the Bear slightly under-geared on occasion, so I have been thinking about changing the freewheel for something...

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Hadn't thought of that, but would it make the noise both while pedalling and also while coasting?

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

That's spooky! Just had the same thought and tried standing on the pedals - if anything it made it worse. So unfortunately it's not that. Cycled a mile uphill and it cracked about twenty times, coming back it did it about 5 times - and not so loud. I'm almost sure I can feel it through the...

Mystery noise on my big bear - suggestions please.

Hi folks, I've just reached 2,000 miles on my Woosh Big Bear, approx half covered in France, in a very hilly part of Limousin, and the rest in a much flatter region of Spain near Alicante. My experience has been very good generally, and apart from a few minor niggles, the bike has performed...

    d8veh where are you?

Is it just me or does the forum seem a lot less interesting without d8veh? I was away for a few weeks and dismayed to find that he'd quit the forum when I checked in. There are a lot of clever, creative people on this site but I've always found his contributions to be among the most interesting...
