I have just bought a Pendleton Somerby electric bicycle, however I can’t seem to find the keys that is supposed to come with the bike to remove the battery for charging. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Or can explain where in the box the keys might have been.

That's a brake switch fault. Unplug the brakes'electrical cables from their connectors, then plug them in one at a time to see which one is faulty. The fault should be obvious, like slack cable, savaged lever, etc.
