Hi all,
I’ve just found the site and hoping someone can offer some advice please. I purchased a Pendleton Somerby electric bike last year but wasn’t able to ride for most of the year due to a broken foot and ankle. But when I’ve come to use it today, although everything’s working as it should, the front wheel is so noisy! It’s making a loud whirring noise. We’ve worked out it’s not the brakes but more from the centre of the wheel. Does anyone have advice as to how to stop the noise please. Many thanks

1. Turn the bike upside down and spin the wheel forward. It should spin freely. Does it make the sound Y/N?
2 Spin the wheel backwards. You should feel the motor turning and hear a very feint whirring noise. Can you hear the problem sound Y/N?

I bought a Pendleton Somerby for my daughter a few years ago. It came flat-packed almost assembled except for the usual pedals, front wheel and front mudguards which needed some light assembly. (The motor was on the rear wheel). The front wheel was a regular bolt on type 700c wheel. So I would look for the obvious first and check that the wheel is not rubbing off the mudguards, brake pads not rubbing etc. Check also that the mudguard stays screw/bolts are not too long and rubbing off the hub.
It is possible when fitting a wheel that the cone and cup bearings go out of adjustments/tighten if the thin locknuts were not properly tightened in the first place. There is plenty of stuff online showing how to adjust these. It is possible that mud or dirt has got into the bearings (try a squirt of oil) or the bearing themselves have failed and need replacing.
You could bring the bike back to Halfords or possibly any bike shop (or just take off the wheel and give it to a bike shop to check) if you cant fix this yourself.

Sorry, I wasnthinkinking straight. The Pendleton has a rear motor. If the noise is coming from the front and it's not the brake, it can only be the mudguard rubbing, which is quite a common problem, which you can normally solve by loosening the screws on the stays, holding the mudguard off the wheel while you re-tighten them.

Show us a pic of the wheel .
If it isn't brakes or mudguard rubbing check for debris between tyre and under side of mudguard.
Otherwise check the wheel hub rotation for coarseness or side to side play.
