Norfolk County Showground was home to the first Norfolk Motorhome Show over the weekend, offering a diverse mix of both used as well as high-end motorhomes, fresh from the showroom and complete with a price tag topping an impressive £90k
Pedelecs attended on a very busy, and thankfully dry, Saturday. Downpours on the two other days of the show effectively proved why motorhomes are a practical choice for holidaying in the UK however.
The American-built Eurocruiser fifthwheel caravan wowed the crowds at the show’s entrance – a mobile home with heated flooring, leather upholstery, solar panels and slide out sides – the complete antidote to the idea of travelling lightly.
While leisure and recreation vehicles for sale occupied one half of the grounds, an eclectic mix of trade stands occupied the other. Cromer’s Electrifying Cycles were offering their usual broad selection of test rides on quality e-bikes such as Fast4ward, KTM, Haibike, Freego, EBCO and A2B models, amongst others.
The cross-over in those owning motorhomes alongside electric bikes is well known. David Wood of Electrifying Cycles explained that people attending the show were already familiar to the world of electric bikes and came to the stand knowing why they either wanted or needed one and so were keen to talk in more depth about the e-bikes on display.
He further explained: “Electric bikes are an easy and nippy way for motorhome owners to go to the shop to top up on bread, milk and other essentials. Particularly useful with larger motorhomes they don’t want to drive off the camping site regularly. So they take a bike with panniers to load the shopping into instead”
He explained that weight was an important issue to many, saying: “A lot of motorhome owners want a lightweight bike, often without the necessity of it being a folder. The Fast4ward we have on display at 21kg is relatively lightweight and has proved popular today.”
The event saw 1,400 camping spots booked with at least 4,500 day visitors. In all there were 200 exhibitors.
The organisers told Pedelecs that the event was so successful they plan to return next year: “We’ve had really positive feedback and the exhibitors we’ve spoken to have already said they want to return next year.” They added that electric bikes were popular both on exhibitor stands and with those staying, who used their own to get around the campsite, adding: “We had to ask them to dismount in the exhibition area as they were whizzing around like wild fire!”
