A study of the Dutch cycle market demonstrated the continuing strong growth of e-bike sales in the Netherlands last year.
Data from trade associations BOVAG and RAI show 223,000 new electric bikes were sold in 2014, up 16% on the figures recorded for the previous year.
Well over a million bikes were sold in total in the Netherlands last year, an overall increase of 11.2% on 2013, pushing total turnover to 886 million euros.
BOVAG noted that “the increasing use of electric bikes fits the environmental and health-conscious trends of the country.”
As a result, 12% of all cycled kilometers in the country are now made by electric bikes.
