Sparta, the largest electric bike brand in the Netherlands has sold 25% more bikes in the year April 2010 to March 2011. Total e-bikes sales stood at 151,600 (up 8.6%) with Sparta accounting for close to 41,000 bikes.
According to a Sparta press release, this success can be explained by three factors. A market survey, initiated by Sparta, shows that consumers are doing their research before purchasing an electric bike. The press release tells as follows: “From the marketed e-bikes performance, comfort and full-equipment are nowadays, aided by internet etc., very easy to compare. This comparison does increasingly favour Sparta. The many prizes and awards Sparta received for its electric bicycle line offer consumers the much looked-for confidence before a purchase.”
Sparta also states: “Third factor of success appears to be the composition of our e-bike range. By providing a suitable bike for every need we offer the each customer a tailored solution. No fewer than 8 Sparta e-bikes are in the top of the Gfk-bestsellers ranking. These models also account for the majority of Sparta’s electric bicycle sales.”
