Juicy Bike are to loan one of their latest Sport electric bikes to Glossop police for officers to assess their potential use in rural Derbyshire.
Peak District based electric bike manufacturers, Juicy Bike, have been supplying electric bikes nationwide for 5 years, including to a team of officers at a Bristol police station who originally trialed the bike as part of project for which funding fell through. 4 of the 5 Bristol officers were so convinced of the value of electric bikes in their daily routine they went on to purchase their bikes privately.
“As a concept in a policing environment, the electric bike has proved to be a great success. Users all agree that being able to be mobile on a bicycle for a whole shift without getting tired is a wonderful way to get around. Longer distances can be covered without getting hot and sweaty” says Bristol Police Officer, Ben Andreas.
The same Juicy Bike had also previously been trialed by North Yorkshire officers at Northallerton Police Station. Both locations presented demands and stresses that the standard production bike easily overcame. Both stations supplied reviews of their experiences and these helped inform design for the current production range of bikes.
Bob Wales, Director of Juicy Bike, comments: “This informed design input has given an invaluable return for our investment. We are very happy that the opportunity to work with a more local force has arisen and look forward to future co-operation with Derbyshire police.”
The bike will be handed over to Derbyshire Officer, Lee Baker, at the Peak District Tourism Conference at Pavilion Gardens, Buxton on 21st March.
