A London-based team behind Sir Clive Sinclair have this month launched what they say is the “lightest and most compact” electric bike on the market.
The A-Bike concept came from British inventor, Sir Clive Sinclair, who wanted to change the way people thought about daily commutes and travel, particularly in giving riders “more freedom and fun in their daily journeys”.
The second member of the Sinclair family to appeal for electric bike funding this year, the A-Bike Electric is available to pre-order on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter.
A-Bike Ltd have revitalised the original 2006 A-Bike design, both in modernising the design, making it easier to ride and turning it electric.
The company say: “We envisage the A-Bike Electric as the ideal solution for travelling at both ends of a commuter journey. A typical commuter needs to get from home to their local station and thereafter to the workplace – without anxiety of portability, parking and security.”
The 24V battery powers the bike for up to 15 miles before recharging.
Weighing 12kg, the company say the A-Bike Electric uses “aircraft grade aluminium, high-strength glass-reinforced polymers and is light enough to take on public transport, carry up stairs and get through busy crowds.”
While the bike folds down to carry or store, it’s designed to be ready to ride in under 10 seconds.
With 16 days still to go, the firm has already raised over £70,000, well past the original £40,000 target needed to take the A-Bike into production.
