Kalkhoff UK distributor, 50cycles, are this week launching the new Impulse Evo range of electric bikes to coincide with the NEC’s Cycle Show in Birmingham over the weekend.
The Impulse Evo e-bikes feature a crank motor, integrated battery option and a navigation app which taps into your smartphone for data, but displays the results on your LCD display.
The manufacturer, Derby Cycles, say advances to the Impulse drive system mean the new Impulse Evo motor is reportedly quieter but stronger, with a maximum torque of 80NM, while improvements to the cadence sensor have been engineered to offer a more ‘sensitive control’ of the motor’s assistance for the rider.
Technology to assist your ride includes a sat-nav link up with your smartphone. Using Naviki software, the Impulse Evo navigation app calculates the route to your destination on your smartphone, with the map and directions then shown on the bike’s LCD display. The main benefit being your phone stays protected and away from the elements in your pocket. While your mobile will use its battery to calculate the route, the energy to display that information comes from the bike’s own battery.
The backlit ‘smart’ display also provides the standard ride information you’d expect, showing assist level, battery charge remaining, speed (and average trip speed), alongside trip distance.
Battery capacity options are either 14.5 or 17 Ah. The bike’s twin-LED front and rear lights are also powered by the battery. Using the larger capacity battery and under optimal riding conditions (including using the lowest level of assistance) a fully charged battery is claimed to give a range of up to 125 miles (200 km).
The ‘Include’ version of the Impulse Evo positions the battery behind the seat tube, while the ‘Integrale’ option features an integrated battery in the down tube.
Scott Snaith, of 50cycles, said: “This third generation Impulse motor and battery system brings a fully interactive machine to the market that can be upgraded with applications as technology progresses. The Integrale and Include range have been designed using former motor cycle engineers from Kawasaki, who have helped develop this bicycle from the chassis up, making the innovation more akin to the motor industry rather than the cycle industry.”
E-bikes in the range retail from a starting price of £2,796.00.
