Hi all,

Im not sure if it has been posted anywhere yet, but thought I would give everyone a heads up early on! Presteigne is on again this year on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of May. More details will follow but keep an eye on Tour de Presteigne as details no doubt will appear over the coming month or two.

Kind Regards

FrankC

Every intention of attending. However it may clash with a trip to Vegas, hope not.

Edit: Fly back on the 6th/7th, phew!
We'll be there again.

I think I might join the field this year, on a gloriously unmodified Pro Connect S.

This is a brilliant event but,it gets overtaken by over enthusiastic sellers, putting super fit (ok fitter than your average electric bike rider) on electric bikes,it would be nice to see different cattegories, for example over 45, over 55 etc, instead of allowing a young fit rider to tear around the coarse on a bike they would not normally choose to ride,in order to rack up sales, perhaps there could be a couple of throttle only events, taking in a few hills to show what the bikes rather than the riders are capable of.a true demonstration of an electric bikes capabilities, showing the benefits to an older rider in climbing hills etc, could sell far more bikes.than the present annual display of fit riders that could ride even faster on a lightweight normal bike.

If you can only attend on one of the days, which is considered the best - Sat or Sunday?

That's how I've always thought it would be, but as I've never seen anyone make a big deal of winning it I guess everyone expects that. I fancy seeing it but it's a long way for me to go to a nerd convention, I'm happy being a nerd among others but I can't sell that to the missus.

It's not as nerdy as you think! It's more of a free-wheeling, fun-loving kind of event, not many clipboards, pocket protectors or hats with propellers on to be seen.

Or maybe it is and I'm too much of a nerd to notice. :(

Hi Danny - K

The best day is probably the Sunday where you can watch everyone go round the town streets as well as seeing the exhibition in the morning.

I have attended two of the three years and rallied one of those years. The whole thing is an experience and if you can attend both days and join in with all the activities I am sure you will enjoy it and make many friends.

Hi Wotwozere

Yes it is possible for anybody of any shape or size to join in - well so far it has been. There was touring on the saturday evening last year and everyone can enjoy that - provided they have a bike.

..and everyone else

Presteigne has been a smashing event so far - there is a bit of excess in the rivalry between some distributors, although if you ignore them, the rest is really for everyone - only too much excess, too many participants, too much success and too much Health and safety will kill it off and it has not reached that stage yet. Try and get there whilst Presteigne is still pristine!!!!

last year the main tour de prestigne race through the streets, was held on the sunday, that is well worth watching and i would choose the sunday myself, however i would reccomend arriving a couple of hours before the race, if you would like to try out and see the bikes on display, last year a lot of the display bikes were taking part in the race, and many of the stall holders were on their way home immediatelly after the main event.

Yes anybody can take part,it is in prestigne in wales, what happens is a one hour race around approx a one mile circuit, of the closed off streets of the city centre, the rider with the most circuits within an hour is the winner, all types of people fancy dress etc and their electric cycles enter this event,it is mainly fun but around a dozen cyclists take it very seriously, mainly representing 50 cycles and a couple of ezee riders last year, who go all out to try and win the event, the majority of riders are just having fun riding round ,but are overtaken by riders desperate to win at any cost.

Hi

First I should declare my interest as a member of the committee for Tour De Presteigne. The tour is about a lot more than the race. The aim of the tour is to have fun and promote greener transport and living. In fact the rally was 1 hour whereas the event ran from Friday night until Sunday tea. We had over 1500 visitors and I think everyone had a great time. Last year there was a film show, exhibition of bikes and green transport. There were stalls, workshops and street performers. We had sourced local produce including beer and wine for the cafe and bar. A lot of people enjoyed the 12 mile country ride, with beautiful scenery and a great tea shop. On the Saturday there was a hill climb contest. There was a green transport question time with 6 leading luminaries on green issues and transport, this promoted "spirited" debate at times.Saturday night there was live music and comedy. Please see Tour de Presteigne to see all of the event from last year. What I am trying to say here is please don't think of TDP as just a race because it is a lot more than that. This year will be different again but there will be a variety of events aimed at everyone. If anyone would like to help, get involved or make positive suggestions please feel free to mail me. We are looking for sponsors and people willing to put on events in their own right. Also if there are any technical types that would like to help answer visitors technical questions,or even give lectures that would be great.

Andy

I would like to come to this, is it free? What sort of speeds do the winners do? I have an Ezee Torq, if it is de-restricted would I stand a chance?

Yes, it's completely free Brian.

David Henshaw of A to B magazine on his unrestricted Torq 1 won the 2007 event and was I believe second in 2008, so your bike is ideal for it if it's the Torq 1 and not the later Torq Trekking which is a bit slower.

You'll find lots of information on this post from the last event.

I recall reading that David Henshaw had mechanical failure last year, so couldn't finish the race. I think our old friend, Dienamics, ended up coming second...!

Last year it was £10 to take part in the race events,it is free to watch the races and visit the trade stands, there will be some very serious young fit lycra clad riders going all out to win the event, taking corners at breakneck speeds and pedalling beyond motor assistance on the flat, winning the race is far more rider power than bike power, the majority of riders though are there for a fun ride around.

I may have got my years wrong Frank, David's successful rides possibly 2006 and 2007 then?
