Seem very light, but spec a bit mixed. Would you fit caliper brakes on £4K road bike?

it makes sense to fit V-brakes on them to save weight because the motor is small, only 200W, 300W max.

Reading the description it makes it sound like they designed it and had it manufactured for them, but looking at the link to alibaba it seems they're just buying them in from the makers. Tidy profit at £4k on purchase price of probably around $2000.

the ad is placed by the company that imported it (Juice Bikes) - the £4k RRP is suggested by the same guy so take it with the proverbial pinch. Kudosdave listed some prices from annad.net a few months back. I think you are right about $1800 - $2000 for the R2 with Ultegra set.

Annad sell direct and take paypal for one off order. This is the current R2:

Being so light, would this be easier to ride uphill compared to a 250W hub mountain bike

it's difficult to say, most bikes are labelled '250W', including the R2 - you should really give a model to compare the R2 with. The R2 can assist easily up to 15mph. It's the demand of hill climbing that shows up differences. It's not a bike for heavy riders. If you weigh around 70kgs, the motor on the R2 can cope with up to around 7%-8% gradient with ease, after that, expect to pedal hard.

I'm 11 stone and can cycle up a 7% gradient on a 24kg bike without too much effort hovering around 8mph so it seems this bike can do the same.

What hasn't been mentioned before, where would you find replacement batteries, I doubt a manufacturer would be interested in dealing with the public for one off purchases.

The motor has a surprising amount of torque. It's as powerful as your average 250w motor if not more. The only problem is that their reliability record is not that good. It'll be great while it lasts.
