After I posted about my downhill top speed I decided to try and get some speed on the flat. My new top speed on the flat is 35 mph. Legs spinning madly, I went for it. I lasted about a couple of hundred yards but I did it. My previous best on the flat was 33 mph and I thought I'd never beat it but I did. It was all down to: courage, tenacity, determination and sheer stupidity. So, now I've done it, what's next? Well 36 mph obviously.

I'm loving the Typhoon. I'll either get fitter or die of a stroke.

Ooo, a challenge...used the Typhoon to commute a few times now but only managed 25.1mph.
25.1? Hmm, soft Southern shandy drinker. :)

Now that I've said that about you I guess I'll need to risk a heart attack and go for 36 mph.

A young guy at work was boasting he can get over 40 mph on his racer. (He calls it a road bike but us oldies call it a racer)

The gearing on the Typhoon isn't suitable for those speeds I guess. I might give the tourer a go though with high pressure in the tyres.

**safety note, no children or fluffy animals were injured during this test.*

In the 1970's I was an Engineer on the RAF's Jaguar Conversion Unit at RAF Lossiemouth on the Moray Coast in Scotland. There was an airspeed record set just post WWII by a Typhoon (propellor driven - not the new jet one) for the time travelled from overhead Aberdeen airport to overhead Heathrow airport, this had never been challenged since it was set in about 1947, from memory I think it was about 1 hr or just less. So we thought we would have a go with a Jaguar. We waited for specific weather conditions so that the jet stream was running North to South at about 200mph. Legally we were not allowed to fly supersonic in UK airspace, but with a 200mph tail wind we could achieve nearly 900 mph ground speed whilst still being subsonic at 700 mph airspeed. Needless to say we broke the record. 23 mins for overhead Aberdeen airport to overhead Heathrow at 40,000 feet or so. The record still stands. Need to pedal a bit faster!

Any Russian "Bear" pilot probing our airspace and spotting that on radar would have thought we were running away!

Report on return: "Comrades, they are terrified of us!"

As soon as I spot a 200 mph tail wind I'll get the Typhhon out and give it a go. I probably won't be able to post it on here but I'm sure you'll read about me in the papers and I might even make the 6 o'clock news.

Ok firs real run and strava to get numbers.
35mph down a 3% and 20 on the flat.
Not bad for fat fifty and no power.

I think we need to get a league table going for the summer. It will be interesting to see which one is the most mental and see who dies first. ;)

Still stuck at 47 mph but no power. So not to bad. And it's not a steep hill either.
