Just that, hitting 50+ mph qualifies you as a member.

All you need now is a steep and long enough downhill and brakes that work. :)

Sounds like a hedonistic holiday event for over 50 e-bikers.

As Flecc says a simple case of exceeding 50mph. In my case, downhill, following wind, tucked in, trying to read speedo and see where I was going at the same time.

Good fun :D:D:D

PS Achieved on my Synapse

The speedo on the Proconnect S records maximum speed, so all I need is a steeper hill. I suppose YouTube - Cycling Speed Record is cheating? As if anyone who rides an e-bike would ever cheat.:)

I dunno. Jumping off the roof of a tall building carrying an e-bike should qualify as well.

I've always been against discrimination. :D
.
Nahhhhhh. Else you could count carrying the e-bike in the boot of the car or on the roof rack at 80 mph - even the train. What if you cycled down the aisle of a train moving at 80 mph? :D

I think you have to specify rider, e-bike, and bike tyres moving in contact with the road surface with no additional source of man made power (IC motors, rockets, sails etc etc).

Imo, that youtube ''record'' is a curiousity, nothing more than that. Beats me why he bothered.
Cycling behind a motorcycle or car carried flat board is an officially recognised form of cycling sport. It used to be seen more many years ago and there are various official records. I believe the world record is at a bit over 100 mph.

The existence of the unaided cycling faired recumbent record rather puts the "towed" cycling in the shade though. That's now at over 86 mph on a flat road, I believe last set by Canadian Sam Wittingham at the Battle Mountain annual meeting, riding a Varna designed by Georgi Georgiev.

In my yoof once went on holiday - 3 yoofs, two mopeds, one bicycle. i went over the Forth road bridge at 50 on the bike hanging onto a bungee which was clipped onto a moped - does that count?

In my opinion, definitely yes.

It really doesn't matter if in the saddle and the wheels on the road, towed in an air pocket behind a board, by a bungee or rope are all effectively the same thing as the downhill gravity others have used, an external force providing the motion.

Seeing as the mountain bike speed record is (or was) just under 140mph without slipstreaming it shows that the mtb is the fastest cycle shape available. :)

OK, he was riding down the side of a mountain but that's a minor detail. He also fell off at the bottom, ouch.

Finding my (electric) wheels

I'll be interested to see if I can join this club on two wheels. I've hit the hallowed 50mph on 4 small wheels and a bit of fibreglass (mountain board) but I was wearing a full pressure suit, pads, neck support, gloves and a motocross helmet! :D

Any time I've tried it on as bike in the past, nerves have got the better of me!
