Your fortunate that its not slipping my experience through selling second hand bikes is most cassettes with more than seven speeds need the cassette and chain changing together, you also need a narrower chain on 8 speed and above, your rubbing noise could be the chain is fractionally too wide...

Hi i had exactly same problem with powacycle salisbury, cage bearings lasted two weeks before starting creaking leading to cage failure,i just kept replacing them, i solved it permanently by selling the bike.
